Are you celebrating the Royal Wedding?

I know– we broke away from the Crown more than two centuries ago, but we, as a nation, seem to be unreasonably interested in the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  Are you?

(Shh– I’ll probably get up a little early and watch a bit of the ceremony in my pajamas.)

There are watching parties around town– check out The Pub at Rookwood Mews and The Pub at Crestview Hills, as each will be having a watching party starting at 5:45 AM and a food drive that coincides.  Churchill’s Tea Room will be having a benefit tea at 1 PM tomorrow, celebrating the nuptials and benefiting the Drop Inn Center. Check out their site for more information and reservations.  They were featured on BBC America as part of a series on Royal Wedding fever in the States— fun.

If you want to stay at home, Nigella Lawson (my favorite TV cook) has some wedding-appropriate recipes featured on NPR today.  They’re simple and sound really good.

If you’re interested in the food, here’s a video of McVities and their tea biscuit groom’s cake:

  • I don’t think I will. I’ve never understood why people get so excited about it here in the States, but that’s just me. To each their own, I suppose. A woman I work with it having a tea party (lower case, not a Tea Party) that I will probably stop by because I reaaally like tea, but no waking up super early to watch coverage.

  • I’ll be civilised and watched it recorded on the tellie with my lass in from NYC. I foresee pitchers of Pimm’s Cups and almond biscuits. All gluten-free, of course. 😉
