Upcoming events: Rookwood, CinSation

Lots of press releases in my inbox this week. Here are a few that piqued my interest:

The Rookwood is doing a Bulleit Bourbon dinner on Thursday, February 24. $45 for four courses and reservations are required. All of the courses involve Bulleit, both in cocktail form and in the food itself. The menu looks fun:

Fried Bacon- five strips, chicken fried, jalapeño honey

Bacon-infused Bulleit

Tasso Ham Salad
arugula, shaved fennel, citrus supremes, cornbread gremolata,
sherry-citrus vinaigrette

Lemon-fennel Bourbon Cooler

Bulleit Braised Pork Chops

baked beans, collard greens, cornbread gremolata

Blackstrap Bulleit Manhattan

Bulleit Bourbon Pecan Pie

Bourbon Milk Punch

CinSation is the Junior League’s major fundraiser gala and is happening this Saturday at the CAC.  Tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door, and proceeds benefit the Junior League’s projects, including Kids in the Kitchen, which teaches children and parents good eating habits.  That $60 includes a 20s-style speakeasy, and a restaurant competition in which you’ll eat dinner-by-the-bite and judge the “Best Bite of the Night”.  Dishes include:

  • Arnold’s Bar and Grill – Cajun Crab Bisque
  • Bouquet Restaurant and Wine Bar – Red and Golden Beet Carpaccio, Fresh Herb Salad, Pecans and Goat Cheese Air
  • CK Catering – Cannon of lamb with beetroot shortbread, parsnips and white chocolate puree
  • Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse – Chili Braised Short Ribs
  • Keystone Bar and Grill – Buffalo Springfield Mac n’ Cheese
  • Maribelle’s Tavern – Duck Rilette, Beet Chip, Smoked Trout, Mustard and Crème Fraiche
  • Palomino – Duck confit crostini with port wine reduction, cauliflower and ricotta cheese spread, bell pepper chives and carrot
  • Rock Bottom Brewery – Roasted red pepper hummus with warm flatbread
  • Stone Creek Dining Company – Ponzu glazed pork spare ribs
  • Teller’s of Hyde Park – Pork tamale (braised pork shoulder, masa harina, kimchi tamale sauce)
  • The Rookwood – Chicken fried bacon with jalapeno honey
  • Tom and Chee – Creamy tomato basil soup with barbecue bacon grilled cheese and barbecue potato chips
  • Trio Bistro – Hawaiian Ahi Tuna
  • Walnut Street Grill – Cornbread and Chicken Gravy

There will also be dessert provided by Yagoot and Busken Bakery, coffee by Coffee Emporium, and late-night pizza by Ramundo’s. I’ll be there (disclosure: I’m in this year’s provisional class of the Junior League) and it should be a great time.  Get tickets at www.jlcincinnati.com.
