I’m sure you folks have heard about the shooting at Tucker’s on Vine, which left Carla Tucker injured and a customer in critical condition. Terry and I were for a time regulars (we really need to get back), so this hit pretty close to home. Joe and Carla are salt-of-the-earth– so seeing this happen to them takes a bit out of my faith in humanity. The best part about the restaurant is not the food (though the food is fantastic) but the fact that it caters to new residents, established residents, rich, poor, young, old, priests, police– everyone. That’s something we don’t want to lose in this community.
Good news: a report is in that District 1 has caught the suspects, and Mayor Mallory is calling for an end to gun violence. Still, as a community, we need to show support for the Tuckers and the work they’ve done for the community. Kate from Kate’s Random Musings has set up a Twitvite, organizing folks to show their support. It’s from 9-3 (though I believe Tucker’s opens at 10 and closes at 2). You don’t have to eat there– and if there are enough folks who show up, Joe won’t be able to keep up and there aren’t enough tables anyway– but go there and make sure that they know they’re supported and that we won’t let gun violence affect the way we live our lives.
