You know a neighborhood is becoming popular again when you can get brunch. I mean, brunch is possibly the perfect meal– you can get sweet or savory, have an alcoholic beverage or coffee and apologize to no one. If I had coffee with dinner, people would look at me funny. If I had a Bloody Mary on a Tuesday for breakfast, people would think I was an alcoholic. But with brunch, both are acceptable (and encouraged!).
I’ve noticed lately that no longer do I have to go into downtown or Northside for brunch, I can walk and within a few blocks get some brunchy goodness. I’ve actually compiled a map of brunch places in OTR (as an experiment in making my own Google Map) so if you live in the neighborhood or if you’re just visiting, you can easily find your favorite brunch fix. The list, as it stands:
- Joe’s Diner (dinner review coming tomorrow)
- MOTR (which just opened this past weekend)
- Lavomatic (please bring back the cherry cordial french toast. Please?)
- Senate (coming soon)
Yup, that’s right, Senate will be opening for brunch– very exciting, and a great addition to the already-happening Sunday scene in OTR.
Don’t want brunch? Head to Iris Bookcafe or Coffee Emporium for a cup of coffee and pastry and a copy of the newspaper and enjoy the laid-back vibe of either place.
Am I missing any places? Let me know in the comments.
