When I was growing up, my grandma– who grew up speaking German, in Over-the-Rhine– just loved Forest View Gardens. They had good German food, and employed a lot of students from CCM as singing waiters. Her senior center often had “field trips” there, and she just loved it. Forest View Gardens closed in 2001, and I’m pretty sure the old location is now a subdivision.
If you (or maybe your grandma) has a hankering for German food prepared by the Forest View Gardens folks, they can actually get it for one day only at Vito’s Cafe. April 24th is the date, starting at 7 PM. Menu selections include:
· Sauerbraten, red cabbage, potato pancake $23.00
· Wiener Schitzel, Spaetzel, potato pancake $25.00
Trudy and Kurt Seybold will lead the chicken dance (okay, that part I could PROBABLY pass up, but I bet kids would find that fun) and the servers will, of course, sing. Vito’s is located at 654 Highland Ave. Suite 29, Ft. Thomas, KY 41075 and you can get reservations by calling 859-442-9444.
