Reviews Revisited: Bootsy’s, Pit to Plate, Lavomatic

Bootsy’s– I’ve been there twice (!) since my first review, and had a great time both times. No pictures– but I tried their Cocas Catalan, which is flatbread with an apple compote on top. Very, very good. Terry liked the pork belly, but was disappointed by the lack of beer on tap. We did do dessert– key lime tart and a beautiful, delicious flan. I’m impressed both by their presentation and the fact that they are house made– it’s getting so hard to find good, house made desserts. We paired them with glasses of Moscato d’Asti and it was a delicious end to the meal. Plus, the price is right– $53 for two.

Pit to Plate– I went here tonight with the Happy Mouth Supper Club. Still love their sauces, though the meat was slightly disappointing after the dinner we had at a friend’s house, involving the best smoked pork butt Terry had had outside of The Golden Rule.  More on that in another post.

Lavomatic– My Mom and I went here for brunch a couple of weeks ago.  We had some unexpected time together, as we had to put my childhood dog to sleep.  Since Lucy (the dog) liked champagne, we started off with Mimosas in her honor.  Mom picked the Quiche Lorraine, which she liked, but I felt was a little bland, and the crust tasted a bit off.  I had the shrimp and grits, which really weren’t great– the grits were congealed, the shrimp fairly tasteless (though cooked properly, not rubbery or anything). The egg on top seemed an odd choice, and didn’t quite go with the rest of the plate. I did like the braised leeks on top.  I think I’ll stick to sweet dishes at Lavomatic’s brunch from now on (I love their French toast!).
